ROGERS — The hog call could be heard Saturday coming from the 17th hole during the Walmart Northwest Arkansas Championship.

“I just love women’s golf,” Nancy Soloman of Pine Bluff said. “It’s a little more laid back than the men.”

Soloman said she is a golf fan, but really enjoys watching the women play.

Don Martens of Bentonvile also said he enjoys watching the women play and especially Stacy Lewis. He also follows the women tour on television.

“They put on good tournament,” Martens said of the tournament at Pinnacle Country Club. “I will keep coming as long as I can see and walk around.”

Brock Sapp of Joplin, Mo., said he is a golf fan and just came to watch the tournament. He also came last year.

“It’s a very good tournament and I’m very impressed by it,” Sapp said.

Matthew Moore and his daughter, Lauren, followed Lewis around Saturday morning for four or five holes. Lauren, 8, is a fan of Lewis’.

Lauren said she was enjoying the tournament. “I like watching, but I don’t play very well,” Lauren said.

Moore said he’s been to the tournament three or four times.

“It’s beautiful weather, a beautiful place and really good golfers,” Moore said.

Scott Vogel and his wife, Susan, brought their 10-year-old son Daniel to the tournament.

Vogel said the tournament is a family activity because it has something for everyone especially the area for children.

It was his first time at the tournament and Scott Vogel said his family was enjoying the day.

“The golf is great,” Vogel said. “I’ve been to other tournaments and this one seems to be really organized.”

David Cummings of Westville, Okla., said Saturday’s tournament was an activity for his and his 10-year-old son Jacob. “I just love golf and brought my son so we could spend time together,” Cummings said. “I’m surprised he wanted to come.”

Jacob said he was enjoying watching the tournament, but also spending time with his father.

Dennis Gore of Louisville, Ky., said he enjoys watching the women play. He arrived Tuesday for the tournament.

“I love watching the women play,” Gore said. “They seem to have more fun than the men. They are also nicer and interact more with the fans.

It was Gore’s first year at the tournament.

“It’s beautiful here,” Gore said. “It’s been wonderful. They did a great job and the volunteers have been so nice.”

Soloman said she also impressed by the course.

“I think it is a gorgeous course,” Soloman said. “I would love to play on this course.”

The tournament ends today.
