Wife dies, husband injured in Hot Springs motorcycle crash

A California woman was killed and her husband injured Friday when the motorcycle they were on crashed with a tractor-trailer in Garland County.

Passenger Joyce Lynn Bonnett, 64, and driver Donald Bonnett, 65, both of Saratoga, Calif., were northbound on a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Arkansas 7 in Hot Springs around 10:11 a.m. when Gregory Meyers, who was also traveling north on Arkansas 7, made an improper turn into the left lane causing the motorcycle to turn over on its left side, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Meyers, 50, of Hot Springs Village, was driving a 2010 International truck and pulling a 28-foot trailer, the report states.

When the motorcycle turned over, Joyce was thrown under the wheels of the trailer, according to the report. She was pronounced dead at the scene and Donald was taken to Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs, officials said. The extent of his injuries was unclear as of Saturday afternoon.

Police said Meyers was not injured and conditions were clear and dry in the area.

Joyce was the 232nd person to die this year in traffic accidents on Arkansas roadways, according to preliminary reports.
