Moore paying $80.78 per ton for debris removal

MOORE, Okla. — The city of Moore is paying more than double and triple what the city of Oklahoma City is paying to remove debris left from the May tornadoes.

Moore is paying Silver Star Construction $80.78 per ton while Oklahoma City is paying $25.70 to $33.95 per ton. Silver Star President Steve Shawn told The Oklahoman that he's "shocked" at the difference and that his prices are not inflated.

Officials say one factor is that Moore requires the contractor to pay $17.54 per ton at the city's designated landfill while Oklahoma City pays the fee for its contractors.

Oklahoma City also obtained emergency bids specifically for tornado debris. Moore has had a contract for several years with Silver Star in an effort to have a company perform public works projects.
