Garland County fires one officer, suspends another

Garland County sheriff’s office has fired one officer and suspended another officer for separate events.

Danny Wilson was fired June 11 from the Garland County sheriff’s office on an ethics violation for conduct unbecoming an officer, Hot Springs Police spokesman Lt. James Martin said in a news release.

The violation stems from a report that was filed with the Hot Springs Police Department, Martin said.

Wilson allegedly exposed himself on May 23 to a customer at the Big Chill who did not want to press charges, the release states.

Wilson was suspended without pay May 24 during an internal investigation, which “revealed enough evidence to justify [Wilson’s] termination,” Martin said.

Scott West was suspended without pay Friday pending the outcome of an internal investigation, the release states.

Arkansas State Police contacted the Hot Springs Police Department June 13 concerning the dashboard camera video of a call Arkansas State Police had assisted on. State police said the traffic stop — in which the attempted burglary suspects who were pulled over fought with deputies — needed to be reviewed, Martin said.

The Hot Springs police captain “felt the matter needed to be turned over to [an] internal investigation panel for review,” the release states.

No further information was available Friday afternoon.
