SPRINGDALE — Emma Avenue will be closed this weekend at the railroad crossing.
Arkansas & Missouri Railroad will add a second track and install crossing arms for vehicle and pedestrians, said Larry Rouse, track superintendent.
The work will require Emma to be closed from 7 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday. Eastbound traffic will detour to Commercial Street to Meadow Avenue and westbound traffic will detour on Hewitt Street to Huntsville Avenue, according to a news release from the Springdale Police Department.
The new track will extend the passenger train rails across Emma Avenue to improve access to the depot, Rouse said.
All of the improvements planned will probably not be finished during the time Emma will be closed, Rouse said.
After the Rodeo of the Ozarks, scheduled for July 3- 6, the railroad will plan another closing, Rouse said. The main-line tracks will be improved at that time, he said.
