A news release from the City of Fayetteville:
On Monday, June 24th, the Flyover Contractor, Emery Sapp & Sons, will be shifting northbound traffic on College Avenue. This work will take place during daytime hours, but after the morning rush hour. The lane shift will begin just north of Millsap Road on College Avenue and will affect northbound traffic by shifting both lanes of traffic to the right. Typical construction signage notifying motorists of the lane shift will be installed as well as pavement striping and temporary concrete traffic barriers. During the installation of the striping and signage on Monday, flagmen and will be present to direct traffic through the work site, and short duration lane closures may be necessary.
Once completed, the lane shift will remain in place for approximately 60 days to allow for construction of a retaining wall adjacent to College Avenue. Two lanes of traffic will be provided throughout this period. Please drive cautiously through this construction zone.
Upon completion, the flyover will allow drivers traveling northbound on Highway 71B to cross over the existing Fulbright Expressway and enter the CMN commercial development area by the existing Olive Garden restaurant or to access the Fulbright expressway westbound to I‑540.
Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. from Columbia, Missouri, was the low bidder on the project and has been awarded the contract for construction of the flyover in the amount of $6,303,828.48. The Contractor has projected that the flyover will be open to traffic in May 2014.
This project is funded by an Agreement of Understanding with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, with Federal Aid money paying 80% and the City paying 20%. The Federal portion will be paid from the Federal Earmark received by the City of Fayetteville in the 2005 Highway Bill, and the City’s portion will be paid from the Transportation Bond Fund.
