Alderman and former teacher acquitted on most counts

A Sebastian County Circuit Court jury acquitted former Lavaca Middle School teacher Jack James on seven of eight charges against him Thursday and deadlocked on the eighth charge, harassment. Students accused the former teacher, who is a Lavaca alderman, of asking them to expose their genitals, and one boy said James fondled him.

James faced three counts of attempted sexual indecency with a child, three counts of sexual indecency with a child and one count of second-degree sexual assault, in addition to the harassment charge.
