Bella Vista Stingrays Begin Meets

The Bella Vista Stingrays will have their first swim meet of the season Saturday at Bella Vista Village’s Kingsdale pool.

Swimmers will begin warming up at 8 a.m., and the meet will run from 9 to 11 a.m.

The Bella Vista Stingrays are a recreational summer swim team for students between the ages of 7 and 18.

Other swim meets are planned for:

• 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers. Warm up begins at 4:30 p.m.

• 9 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Rogers Aquatics Center. Warm up begins at 8 a.m.

• 9 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at Melvin Ford Aquatic Center in Bentonville. Warm up begins at 8 a.m.

• 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, championship at The Jones Center in Springdale. Warm up begins at 3 p.m.

The swim team’s first session will run through June 27. The second session runs July 8-25, and space is still available for swimmers interested in participating. Swimmers between the ages of 11 and 18 will practice from 8 to 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and swimmers between the ages of 7 and 10 will practice from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Both practices take place at the Kingsdale Pool, 1 Riordan Drive. Participants should bring goggles, towels and caps (for girls) to each practice.

Swim team participants will learn four competitive swim strokes, as well as starts and turns and basic rules of competitive swimming. Participants also will improve their swim times and have fun. To participate, students must be able to swim freestyle 25 yards without stopping.

Lisa Richards, a former All-American swimmer from the University of Hawaii and a former national record holder, is serving as the team’s new coach. She has coached all levels of swimming for 20 years, even producing an Olympian in 1996.

The cost per session is $50 for members of the Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association and $60 for guests. Swim meets are open to participants of both sessions. Meets are not required but encouraged.

Bella Vista Village, First Tee Extend Golf Camp

Bella Vista Village’s First Tee Golf Camp will offer an additional week of camp, beginning July 29.

The camp, open to young golfers between the ages of 10 and 17 who are interested in having fun while improving their overall golf skills and knowledge of the game, has three remaining weeks available. They are:

• July 15-18

• July 22-25

• July 29-Aug. 1.

Camp, which is from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday, is an intensive golf training program that takes place on the Brittany Golf Course. Camp runs from June 3 to July 25.

The golf course features a par 3 and par 4 practice experience for young golfers. Campers will have a 75-minute lesson, as well as an additional 75-minute short game and putting session. The lesson also will include playing several holes on the Brittany Golf Course. Campers should bring their own set of clubs each day.

On Thursday, an awards ceremony and pizza lunch will be provided. Dismissal will be at 1:30 p.m.

The weekly class is $75 for members of The First Tee and $90 for those who are not members of The First Tee. The camp fee includes instruction and Thursday’s lunch.

Junior golfers may also take advantage of junior golf rates available on all Bella Vista Village golf courses. Junior golfers, that are members of the association, may play up to 18 holes for $9 at the 18-hole facilities, nine holes for $8 at the Brittany Golf Course and nine holes for $2 at the Branchwood Golf Course.
