PERSONAL SPACE: Diane Carroll

Where I live: My house was built in 1908 by the Stringfellow family, who were very early, notable Fayetteville residents. It’s in the Washington Willows neighborhood in downtown Fayetteville. We bought it 10 years ago when we moved here from Dallas. The big front porch was an enormous draw for us.

Occupation: Media relations manager at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. My background is in public relations as well as journalism. For many years, I worked as a regional contributor for a variety of national publications focusing on art, architecture, design and landscaping. I transitioned to Crystal Bridges last summer.

My favorite space: My front porch.

Why? From the moment we saw this house, the front porch just drew us in. It spans the entire front of the house, and it has lots of architectural features to it with big columns, lots of windows overlooking the living and dining areas in our home and a big, wide welcoming front door. It’s just a very classic, gracious Southern front porch. We use it nearly year-round.

If I could do one thing to improve this space I would: Landscape the yard surrounding the front porch.
