ROGERS - Olympic kayaker Mike Herbert of Rogers will present his basic kayaking seminar at Beaver Lake again this summer. The seminar is at 10 a.m., June 22 at Prairie Creek park on the beach near the sand volleyball court.

There is no fee or registration. The Army Corps of Engineers will waive the park day-use fee for everyone attending the event. Herbert will cover the basics, such as proper paddle grip, efficient paddling technique and how to get in and out of a kayak.

After the 30- to 45-minute seminar, there will be a group paddling trip with Herbert in the Prairie Creek arm. He’ll be on the water and available to offer advice and tips to anyone who asks. Life jackets are required.

After the paddling trip, Herbert will have his K-1 kayak that he paddled in three Summer Olympics available for people to try. Herbert competed in kayak events of the Summer Olympics in ’88, ’92 and ’96 and competes in kayak races around the nation.

People should bring their own kayak and a lawn chair if they’d like to sit during Herbert’s talk.

The seminar was scheduled for the Arkansas 12 bridge, but was moved to Prairie Creek park because of the high lake level.
