Sustainable Landscape Awards Announced

FAYETTEVILLE — The city’s Urban Forestry Advisory Board has announced 2013 winners in its sustainable landscape competition.

Terry and Ken Eastin of 858 N. Jackson Ave. won the board’s residential award, and the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks won in the commercial category. Both winners will receive a sign to display on their property.

The urban forestry awards seek to recognize the best examples of sustainable landscapes based on four criteria: design and aesthetics; preservation of natural environment; environmental best management practices; and attraction to wildlife.

The public is invited to tour the properties Wednesday. Residents can meet members of the urban forestry board at 4 p.m. at Building 3 on the Veterans Health Care System campus, 1100 N. College Ave. The group will then caravan to the Eastin residence.
