Work to limit Clinton park bridge hours

Workers are installing a color-changing LED lighting system on the Clinton Presidential Park Bridge from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays through Oct. 1.

Walkers, skaters and cyclists are not allowed on the bridge during those hours. But the bridge reopens to full use on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

To reach the Little Rock River Market, commuters and tourists staying in the North Little Rock RV park can use the Junction Bridge, also a pedestrian-and-bicycle bridge, immediately west of the Clinton Bridge.

Workers will also eventually light the Main Street Bridge and the Junction Bridge. A grand illumination event for all three bridges is tentatively planned for December. (The Broadway Bridge isn’t included because it will be torn down and replaced, beginning in 2014.)

Entergy is paying most of the cost of the lighting, under a $2 million donation announced in April; another $400,000 will come from Little Rock, North Little Rock, the Clinton Foundation and the Pulaski County Junction Bridge Authority. Philips Lighting, which also has lights on the Empire State Building in New York and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, is donating $100,000 worth of LEDs.
