GOLF Southern Junior Cup teams set

A group of six boys and six girls will represent Arkansas on Tuesday and Wednesday at the 2nd annual Southern Junior State Cup at the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Miss.

Four ball and foursome matches consisting of two-man teams of one boy and one girl will be played Tuesday. Individual singles matches of boys against boys and girls against girls will conclude the tournament Wednesday.

Representing Arkansas in the boys division are: Carson Roberts and Lincoln Hill of Conway, Peyton Wilhoit of Searcy, Cameron McRae of Little Rock, and Mason Adams and Davis Trice of Fayetteville.

On the girls side are: Kristen Garner of Hot Springs, Stephanie Leake of Little Rock, Casey Ott of Conway, Peyton Weaver of Benton, Hannah Balalekos of Sherwood and Taylor Loeb of Maumelle.

Competing with Arkansas are Mississippi, Missouri and Oklahoma.

Maumelle to host U.S. Amateur qualifying

A total of 41 golfers will tee off today at Maumelle Country Club in a U.S. Amateur sectional qualifying event.

The competition is 36 holes, and golfers are competing for two spots into the 113th annual U.S. Amateur championship which will be held Aug. 12-18 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.
