PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: GOP Has Surprising History

Monday, July 29, 2013

Many people believe the GOP has in recent years been subverted, placing only candidates on the ballot that are, in fact, Republicans in name only.

The GOP has not been subverted. It was that way from the beginning. The Republican Party has its roots in communism. Go to Wikipedia and find Alvin Bovay. He was the founder of the Republican Party along with Horace Greeley, Jacob Woodruff and Charles Dana. They were involved in a commune called “Ceresco” in Ripon, Wis. The National Reform Association and its sister organization, The American Union Association, formed 50 communist communes around the country.

Charles Dana was a personal friend of Karl Marx. Dana became Under Secretary of War in the Lincoln Administration. Several Union Generals were also Communists.

The Republican Party became so radical that Lincoln felt he could not be re-elected on its ticket. Out of this the National Union Party was formed, a one-time organization to re-elect Lincoln.

The radical Republicans put up General Fremont as they had in 1856, then a deal was made just before the 1864 election and Fremont dropped out.

The Democratic Party is also infiltrated with Communists. Franklin D. Roosevelt stated publicly, “Some of my best friends are Communists!”

Pets Deserve Better Care

I applaud Lesley Hamilton on her letter regarding her neighbor’s abusive and unfeeling treatment of her dog. I doubt this person reads the newspaper but hopefully she does and will recognize herself.

I often see people riding bicycles with their dog on a leash trying to keep up. Maybe they think that looks cool but those of us who are cursed with extreme compassion for animals view this as abuse. This is even more heartbreaking during the summer months.

I was waiting to pick up my grandson from football practice yesterday at Springdale High when I noticed a woman walking a small dog. It was already very warm and I had sought shade while waiting. The poor little thing was clearly exhausted, its tail dragging as it struggled to keep up with its master. I’ve mentally kicked myself a dozen times for not intervening and suggesting she carry the dog at least until it recovered. I would love to put her on the hot, hot pavement with no shoes and wearing a fur coat.

Sadly I think many people view their pets as possessions and not living, breathing beings who suffer the same discomfort we do.
