Diners looking for really fresh Latino food can find it at a taqueria located inside of Mi Tienda Supermarket in Springdale.

The location opened about seven years ago, owner Jaime Flores says. He says the food is really fresh because all of the meat comes directly from the meat department in the supermarket. He adds that they only sell Angus beef, which he believes is the best quality of meat.

One of the most popular items at the taqueria is a pupusa ($1.79), which is a Salvadoran item that Flores describes as a corn dog made with a handmade corn tortilla filled with cheese and meat or vegetables.

The taqueria also serves $1.25 taco dishes; $5.99 burritos; $1.99 sopes, which is a choice of meat topped with cilantro and chopped onions;

and $5.49 tortas, Mexican style sandwiches served on freshly made buttered bread with mayonnaise, refried beans and a choice of meat topped with lettuce, onions, tomatoes and avocado. Someof the meat choices are carne asada (grilled steak), carnitas (shredded braised pork), al pastor (marinated pork and chopped pineapple) and tinga de pollo (spicy marinated chicken). Carne asada is the most popular, but Flores says he believes the best meat choice is alambre, which is steak, bacon, onions, bell peppers and melted cheese.

Other dishes include gorditas, which are handmade fried corn tortillas stuffed with beans and a choice of meat served with lettuce and cream ($1.99); huraches, an ovalshaped fried masa base topped with beans, green/red salsa, cheese, lettuce and cream ($4.99); and quesadillas made with flour tortillas, melted cheese and a choice of meat and served with rice, beans and a side salad ($5.99).

Flores notes that there are also two different main dishes available each day. These $5.99 plates are large portions, he adds.

Flores also opened a Mi Tienda Express about six months ago at 2270 E.

Robinson Ave. in Springdale.

This location will begin offering tacos and also breakfast, such as scrambled eggs, in two weeks, he says.
