FOOTBALL Arkansas kickoff luncheon set

The Arkansas athletic department will hold its fifth Arkansas Razorback football kickoff luncheon at noon Aug. 23 at the NWA Convention Center in Springdale.

Coach Bret Bielema and Athletic Director Jeff Long will speak at the event and fans will have a chance to meet and interact with the Razorbacks players and personnel. Arkansas graduate Jimmy Dykes, an ESPN analyst, will emcee the luncheon.

Cost for the event is $25 per person. Tables of eight, which include two spots for players or personnel, are $300.

Tickets are available by calling 800-982-4647 or online at ArkansasRazorbacks.com.

Arkansas kicks off its season at 3 p.m. Aug. 31 against Louisiana-Lafayette at Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

BASKETBALL UA women going on summer tour

Arkansas’ women’s basketball team will play an exhibition tour in Italy this summer.

The Razorbacks will have a 10-day, three-game trip from Aug. 8-18 that will include stops in Rome, Florence and Milan.

NCAA rules allow Arkansas to have 10 practices in Fayetteville before leaving for Italy.

“It will be great for our team in terms of growth both on and off the floor,” Arkansas Coach Tom Collen said in a news release. “We have a very young team. They will benefit on the floor from the extra 10 days of practice before we leave in addition to the three games we will play against veteran teams.

“Hopefully, that will help us become a more cohesive unit when the season begins and it will make up for our lack of experience in years.”
