Burn bans lifted in all but 10 counties

Burn bans remained in effect in 10 Arkansas counties Wednesday after this week’s rains alleviated some of the dry conditions that prompted a flurry of the bans issued earlier this month, according to the Arkansas Forestry Commission’s website.

Pulaski County’s ban on outdoor burning was lifted Wednesday, eight days after it was imposed. More than 30 Arkansas counties had been under burn bans last week.

Little Rock received more than a half-inch of rain within the past week, raising its monthly total to 0.77 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

An executive order from Pulaski County Judge Buddy Villines said burning is still subject to state and local rules already controlling outdoor burning activities.

The counties - most in the state’s southern half - that continue burn bans as of Wednesday afternoon were: Carroll, Clark, Cleveland, Grant, Jefferson, Lincoln, Madison, Monroe, Ouachita and Pike, according to the commission’s website.
