Picture Key lime cake with Orangesicle icing

Pillsbury recently added two flavors to its line of summer seasonals - Key Lime and Orangesicle. They’re available in cake and cookie mixes and packaged frosting. And they fit right in with the Pink Lemonade flavor that came out earlier this year.

The mixes and frosting cost between $1.25 and $2 and should be in stores through August.

While on the subject of baking, Duncan Hines also debuted two flavors in its Decadent Cupcake Mix line. They cost about $3 each.

The Chocolate Lover’s version includes cupcake mix, frosting mix and a disposable pastry bag so you can inject some of the frosting into the cupcake.

The Strawberry Cheesecake version also includes a pastry bag, as well as the cupcake and cream cheese frosting mixes.

Nature Valley offers a variety of products, including snack bars and cereal. A few new things worth a mention: Soft-Baked Oatmeal Squares in Peanut Butter and Cinnamon Brown Sugar versions. They’re sold in boxes of six that cost about $4.

Nature Valley’s Protein Granola is a crunchy mix that can be eaten in a bowl with milk, or sprinkled on your yogurt or ice cream. It comes in Oats ’n Honey and Oats ’n Dark Chocolate, and costs about $4.50 for an 11-ounce bag.

Salted Caramel Nut protein bars and Chewy Trail Mix Dark Chocolate Cherry, and Dark Chocolate Peanut and Almond Sweet & Salty Nut bars.

These are sold in boxes of six that should sell for about $4 as well.

Smucker’s has expanded its ice cream topping line with four new products. For Magic Shell lovers they have Pink Lemonade and Root Beer flavors ($2.49 for a 7.25-ounce squeeze bottle). I tried both, and neither really floated my boat. A co-worker tried the root beer version, and we both decided it was very artificial-tasting. The lemonade flavor was a little better.

If you’re into hot toppings, check out the microwavable Hot Butterscotch or Hot Milk Chocolate flavors ($3 for a 15.5-ounce bottle). The containers have what they call a thermochromatic label that displays “Hot” when it’s fully heated.
