Firefighters have contended with three abandoned house fires in Highfill in the last day.

Two of the fires occurred Wednesday morning and the other was Tuesday morning. All three fires were in the same area.

"Somebody lit it," Jeff Parks, assistant fire chief for Highfill Fire Deparment said. "We can guarantee that."

Parks and numerous other firefighters were on the scene of a fire at wooden frame house on Malone Road.

Firefighter were also nearby Tuesday morning when they responded to a house fire on Malone Road.

Both houses were destroyed as result of the fires.

"We just let it burn," Parks said of Wednesday's fire. "It was fully involved when we arrived."

Parks said they made sure that the fire did not spread.

Other firefighters responded to a nearby fire on South Hendrix Road. Those firefighters put out the fire to the brown brick house, but the structure had significant damage.

Parks said 10 to 20 firefighters were on the scene of Malone Road fire while 30 to 40 were at the house fire on South Hendrix St.

"We really didn't know what we had until we arrived on the scene," Parks said.

Parks said Highfill firefighters assisted the Centerton Fire Department a few weeks ago with an abandoned house fire.

Parks described the intentionally set fires as a waste of manpower and a possible danger to firefighters and he did not consider it a joking matter.

"We are lucky that it is not as hot as it has been," Parks said. "It could have been a danger of heat exhaustion. There's a lot of money and time sitting out here."

Parks said they would turn over the investigation to the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

Firefighters with Centerton, Gentry, Highfill, Cave Springs, Tontitown, Lowell and Gallatin responded to Tuesday's fires.
