Astronomy Program Saturday at Hobbs State Park

ROGERS — A night sky viewing and beginner’s astronomy class are scheduled for Saturday at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area.

The beginning astronomy program begins at 7:30 p.m. and is followed by a viewing of the night school around 8:30, according to a news release.

The Northern Cross, the Summer Triangle and Cygnus the Swan will be among the highlight of the night sky, according to Jack McDaniel, president of the Sugar Creek Astronomical Society. The constellation Scorpius will be identifiable to the naked eye. Saturn, its rings and major moons will be visible, he said.

Participants are asked to bring a flashlight covered with a red cloth or red balloon; binoculars and/or telescope, if available; a folding chair; and a star chart if available.

The class and viewing are free.

The park Visitor Center is just east of the intersection of Arkansas 12 and War Eagle Road.
