Man Hospitalized With Burns Following Accident

FAYETTEVILLE — A Washington County man was taken to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital burn unit in Little Rock after being involved in a fiery accident in Fayetteville on Saturday night, according to Sgt. Tim Franklin of the Fayetteville Police Department.

The 40-year-old man was driving north on College Avenue about 9 p.m. when his pickup crashed into a curb after crossing lanes in front of Lewis Automotive Group, 3373 N. College Ave., according to Franklin.

The man reportedly jumped from the pickup before it crashed. He suffered burns to his back and head and may have damage to his lungs from breathing fumes, according to Franklin.

Investigators are unsure where the man was driving from, but believe it may have been a motel on College Avenue near the scene of the accident, Franklin said. The origin of the fire is unknown, but is being investigated by the fire marshal.

No charges have been filed.

“Treating this man’s injuries is our first priority,” Franklin said.
