Arkansas senior Emily Podzielinski, a Noblesville, Ind., native, used her home course knowledge winning the IWGA Amateur Championship at Harbour Trees Golf Club in Indiana on Friday.

Podzielinski shot 72-69-75 for 216 and the title.

“I’ve spent a lot of hours on that [practice] putting green,” Podzielinski said afterward. “Winning on this course is really special.”

Podzielinski entered the final round with a one shot lead after posting a second-round 69. While her nearest competitors were finding the going difficult, Podzielinski fired a front nine even-par 35 to extend her lead to five shots entering the back nine.

She then bogeyed the 10th and 11th holes. After another bogey on 14, she seemed to have things firmly in control after a birdie on the 439-yard, par-5, 17th. That gave her a three-shot lead with just the 18th to play.

Her tee shot on the par-3 found a piece of the water that guards the green and after a drop and two putt, she posted a double bogey, which was still good for the one shot victory .

“I didn’t know where I stood on 18,” said Podzielinski. “I’ve hit that shot a hundred times. I guess the wind just kicked up.”
