Fire District Vote Certified, Result Unchanged

BENTONVILLE — The Benton County Election Commission on Friday certified the results of the July 9 special election that approved an increase in ambulance fees for the Northeast Benton County Fire Department.

The commission certified the results of the special election in which voters approved a $60 increase in the annual ambulance fee charged to households in the district. The increase was approved by a vote of 298-294.

The district has levied a $40 annual fee since 2007. The Fire Department’s board has said the additional revenue will be used to improve pay and benefits for staff, upgrade equipment and build a reserve fund for capital needs, such as replacing ambulances when that becomes necessary.
