EPA awards grant to UAMS

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is awarding a $215,295 grant to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for pesticide management.

UAMS said the Environmental Education Grant will be used to educate teachers, middle school students and parents on pesticide management practices and the reduction of the use of chemicals in homes.

EPA regional administrator Ron Curry said the project is intended to increase awareness about environmental issues and to protect children.

The project will focus on teacher training to implement curriculum for the classroom, mentoring for students, parent workshops and the development of an interactive website to reach out to residents.
