FORT SMITH — Bentonville batted around two different times, including once in the fifth inning before making an out, as the Tigers rolled past Rogers 21-2 in seven innings during at the American Legion Zone I Tournament at Forsgren Field.
Bentonville scored eight runs and brought 11 batters to the plate in the fifth before Rogers was able to record an out. The outburst was punctuated by Trent Hill’s three-run triple five batters into the frame. They were his fourth, fifth and sixth RBIs of the game.
Hill’s first three RBIs came during Bentonville’s first bat-around in the second inning. He sent a carrying fly ball to straight-away center that just cleared the 370-foot sign for a three-run home run. It was part of six-run second that Rogers could not overcome.
Hill finished 3-for-4 at the plate with six RBIs. Chad Musteen reached base four times on three walks and an error. Hill threw five innings for Bentonville and yielded two runs on three hits. He ran into trouble only once when Rogers’ Austin Griffin hit a two-run home to left field in the third. Hill didn’t allow a hit the rest of the way.
Bentonville sent 15 batters to the plate in the fifth in scoring 12 runs. Ben Nordin, who started the inning with a single, collected two hits in the frame.
With the win, Bentonville is off until Saturday and will face the winner of Kerwins and Rogers, which play at 6 p.m. tonight.
