Property Assessment Appeals Begin Aug. 1

FAYETTEVILLE — Real estate owners wishing to dispute their property assessments can begin signing up for appointments with the Washington County Equalization Board.

Jeff Williams, assessor, said Thursday the county will mail out about 3,600 change-of-value notices by Tuesday. The county assesses parcels annually and notifies property owners if the value changes.

The board will begin meeting at 9 a.m. Aug. 1 at the assessor’s office in the courthouse.

Call the county clerk’s office at 444-1711 to make an appointment. Scheduling begins Tuesday and ends at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 19.

Benton County is sending out about 4,300 notices.

The equalization boards, according to state law, meet from Aug. 1 to Oct. 1, but can meet in special extended session if needed.
