FAYETTEVILLE — A man faces felony charges after police said he hit another man in the head with a skateboard.

Police arrested Shawn Luke Barnes, 21, of 1560 N. Dawn Drive in connection with aggravated assault and second-degree battery.

According to an arrest report, Barnes saw a man slashing the tires of a car parked in front of his house at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Barnes grabbed a skateboard and confronted the man.

The man started to run toward his family’s home, 1558 N. Dawn Drive, but Barnes struck him in the back of the head with the skateboard, the report said.

Police said the man who had been hit with the skateboard was unconscious when officers arrived.

He occasionally “twitched his hands and feet,” the report said, but was otherwise unresponsive.

Barnes was being held Sunday in the Washington County Detention Center on $7,500 bond.
