PETIT JEAN STATE PARK

Location: Go nine miles south of Morrilton on Arkansas 9 to Oppelo;

12 miles west on Arkansas 154.

Length: Various. Pick up a trails map brochure at the visitor center.

By combining several short hikes, you can get in a good walk and see lots of different scenery.

Main attractions: Arkansas’ first (and best) state park offers 20 miles of trails, one 12 miles long. But combine Stout’s Point, Bear Cave Trail, Cedar Falls Overlook,Rock Cave Trail, the CCC Overlook and CCC Hike & Bike Trail for 3.25 miles total.

Hazards: Watch the little ones around the cliffs.

Dog, bike, tyke friendly? No bikes (except on the Hike & Bike Trail), but Fido (on a leash) and the kiddies (not on leashes) will have a ball.
