Voluntary Annexation Requested

BELLA VISTA — A request for voluntary annexation of six parcels of land into Bella Vista was filed Thursday with the Benton County Clerk’s Office, said Bryan Vernetti, city attorney.

The six parcels along the southern limit include Cooper Elementary School, the new Mercy Health facility set to open in the fall, a Property Owners Association pump house, Veterans of Foreign Wars post and the Veterans Wall of Honor near Lake Bella Vista.

The petition was filed in the name of Gene Roy of the Veterans Council of Northwest Arkansas, according to documents.

Along with Roy, Property Owners Association General Manager Tommy Bailey signed off on the petition, as well as Bentonville School Superintendent Michael Poore, Danielle Leitch of the VFW post and Scott Street, CEO of Mercy Health Systems of Northwest Arkansas.

A hearing with Benton County Judge Bob Clinard is set for Sept. 10.

The issue will go to the Bella Vista City Council for approval following the hearing. The council has 30 days to approve or deny the request.
