State Medicaid program has $62 million in trust

After starting the year expecting to cut services, the Arkansas Medicaid program has finished the fiscal year with $62 million in its trust fund.

Department of Human Services officials said Friday that cost cuts associated with health overhaul efforts allowed the program to stay in the black.

DHS Director John Selig said health care providers are adapting their systems in advance of coming changes. The program paid out 1.5 percent less in fiscal 2013 than the year before.

Selig said he expects slight spending growth during fiscal year 2014.
