School Official Arrested

SPRINGDALE — The assistant principal of George Junior High School was arrested Tuesday as a suspect in thefts from a Rogers clothing store.

Angela Coats, 44, of 4100 Georgia St. in Springdale was arrested on a warrant in connection with misdemeanor theft by deception. Coats was the principal of Hellstern Middle School during the 2012-2013 school year.

According to the warrant, Coats purchased fraudulently underpriced items from Gordman’s, then returned them for the full price, according to the information. The transactions took place during May and June of this year, according to the court document.

Coats received $181.98 in cash or store credit, according to the document.

Springdale school officials are aware of the arrest, said Rick Schaeffer, district communications director. He declined further comment because the issue is a personnel matter.

Coats was released from the Benton County Jail on $5,000 bond.
