Ryan's Clothing, a Springdale staple, closing

SPRINGDALE — Ryan's Clothing, a downtown staple for decades, will be closing.

The store will be open possibly through September to sell the remaining inventory and the store fixtures, said Max Ryan, store owner. The decision was made to close last fall, Ryan said, after he decided to retire and could not find another member of the family to take over the business.

The store opened in 1941 as Roland's with Troy Ryan, Max Ryan's father as manager. The name changed to Ryan's in 1960 when the family purchased the business. The store is the last major retailer on Emma Avenue from the days when Emma was the business center of the city.
