Cold front brings possible severe weather to state this week

An approaching cold front brings with it the possibility of storms — some potentially severe — throughout the state Wednesday and Thursday.

John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Little Rock, said the severe storms will mostly affect the northern half of the state through Wednesday night. While a few isolated storms may occur in the southern half of the state Wednesday, severe-weather chances for that area will be higher Thursday, according to Robinson.

Damaging winds will be the main threat, Robinson said, noting that the strongest storms may also produce up to an inch of rain in some areas. Widespread rainfall is not expected, he said.
