2 dead after blaze at car-repair shop

Two Dover residents were found dead after a fire broke out early Saturday morning at the automotive repair shop where they were living, said Pope County Coroner Leonard Krout.

The victims, whose names have not been released, were a 49-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man who shared a bedroom within the shop, Krout said.

The fire was reported at 12:40 a.m. when the owner of the shop, who lives in ahouse a few feet away, noticed flames coming from the building, Krout said.

Fire and rescue crews were dispatched minutes later, Krout said.

The two were eventually discovered and pronounced dead at the scene about 3:45 a.m., Krout said.

The cause of the fire has been investigated by the Pope County sheriff ’s office and the Arkansas State Police, but results were unknown as of Saturday afternoon.
