Woman killed, man injured in Mississippi County crash

A woman died and a man was injured in a single-vehicle crash Friday morning as the woman was driving south on Interstate 55 near the 35 mile marker in Mississippi County, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Earlene French, 82, of Coldwater, Miss., lost control of a 2006 Chevy pickup around 10:30 a.m., causing the vehicle to hit a tree and burst into flames, the report states. French was pronounced dead at 11:35 a.m.

Passenger Z. P. Wallace, 78, of Waukegan, Ill., was taken to The Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. with unspecified injuries, according to the report. His condition wasn’t immediately available Saturday.

Police said conditions were dry and clear in the area.

French was the 251st person to die in a crash on Arkansas roadways, according to preliminary reports.
