Drowning Victim Had Condition

FAYETTEVILLE — A man who drowned June 22 in Lake Wedington suffered from a “secondary heart condition,” according to a preliminary autopsy report.

David Finley, 43, died while training for the Ozark Valley Triathlon, which was scheduled for June 23 at the lake. The event was canceled.

Witnesses said Finley appeared to struggle before he went under water. He didn’t resurface.

Washington and Benton counties’ dive teams recovered his body later that evening.

A preliminary report from the Arkansas State Crime Lab determined Finley died from drowning, but also suffered a heart condition.

Kelly Cantrell, spokeswoman for the Washington County Sheriff ’s Office, said she didn’t have any other information Wednesday.

Finley of West Plains, Mo., was a sergeant with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
