FAYETTEVILLE — Police identified Gary Todd O’Neil as the man injured Monday in a hit-and-run accident.

The 52-year-old man, no address available, was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo., according to Sgt. Craig Stout.

“The last I heard, he was in critical condition,” Stout said.

Stout said O’Neil is from Oklahoma and has spent time in Missouri and Arkansas.

Witnesses said a four-door car struck O’Neil about 2:30 p.m. Monday as he was crossing Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, between Sang Avenue and Lewis Avenue.

O’Neil ran in front of the car and was hit, Stout said. There was no crosswalk.

Witnesses said the car initially slowed and then sped off.

No one had been arrested in connection with the incident as of Tuesday afternoon.
