Hit-and-Run Victim Identified

— Police identified Gary Todd O'Neil as the man who was injured in a hit-and-run accident Monday.

The 52-year-old homeless man was initially taken to the Washington Regional Medical Center, but was later transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo., according to Sgt. Craig Stout, of the Fayetteville Police Department.

"The last I heard, he was in critical condition," Stout said.

Witnesses said a four-door car struck O'Neil about 2:30 p.m. Monday as he was crossing Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, between Sang Avenue and Lewis Avenue.

Stout said there is no crosswalk.

Witnesses said the car initially slowed, but sped off.

No one has been arrested.
