Arguments in Holly Trial Begin

— Opening arguments are set to begin after a jury was chosen in the Washington County Circuit Court trial of a Rogers man charged with second-degree murder and first-degree battery in connection with a double stabbing under an Elkins bridge.

The charges stem from an altercation between Jacob Michael Holly, 28, and Chris Kelley, 44, of Elkins, and Kelley’s son, Shawn Kelley, 22.

Chris Kelley died of stab wounds and Shawn Kelley was injured.

Holly maintains self-defense. According to a preliminary arrest report, Holly told police he stabbed both men. The incident happened about 10 p.m. July 14.

Chris Kelley’s body was found in the river the following day.

Second-degree murder is punishable by six to 30 years in prison.
