FRED AUSTIN BRIGGS, age 87, of Jacksonville passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at his home. He was born November 21, 1925, in DeWitt, Arkansas, to the late Shelley and Amy Briggs. Fred was a member of the U.S. Navy where he served during W.W. II and the Korean War. Following his military service, he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service. Fred was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan. He is survived by a son, Fred Briggs Jr. of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother, Bill Briggs of Germantown, Tenn.; sister, Nonnie Carroll of Clarendon, Ark.; nieces, Marta Vandall of Oakland, Tenn., Gynon Moore and Laura Nicastro, both of Memphis, Tenn.; nephews, Bill Briggs Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., and Raymond Whiteside of Jonesboro, Ark.; several great-nieces and nephews.

Born in Booneville, Arkansas, to Paul F. and Eileen Pickens Coger, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran of Vietnam and recently retired from the heating and air business. THOMAS (RAYMOND) CROCKETT, 70, of Maumelle, passed away Tuesday, January 29, inLittle Rock, Arkansas. He was born September 12, 1942, in Menard, Texas, to David Crockett and the late May Medders Ramsey. During his 20 years in the Army, Ray graduated from Columbia College in Missouri. Following his retirement from the Army he worked for the United States Post Office in Little Rock. He was a member of Pulaski Heights MasonicLodge #673, and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Judy Crockett. Also survived by four daughters, Cheryl (Eric) Pruitt of Heber Springs, Kim (Charles) Elrod of Maumelle, Angela (David) Ruble of Conway, and Rae Ann (Daniel) Mayden of Maumelle; 11 grandchildren, Kristin Hogue, Trey Richards, Landon Bender, Alex Pruitt, Kaci Elrod, Jordan Summers, Jessie Morgan, Alex Ruble, and Lauren, Will, and Ryley Mayden; two great-grandchildren, Corey Tidwell and Morgan Summers; three brothers, Robert Crockett, David Crockett Jr., and R.C. DAVE DAVIS was born on April 5, 1915 to Pearl and Frank Davis in Wilmot, Arkansas. His parents and sister, Mary, died when he was very young and he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Lem and Amanda Coleman Williams. He made thetransition on January 24, 2013.

He was married to Ethel Mae Crudup for 60 years and to this union 13 children were born. Later the family moved to Little Rock, Ark. After moving to Little Rock, he was drafted in the Army and fought in World War II. When he returned from the war, he attended Philander Smith College. He was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad, Westinghouse, and Pulaski County School District.

He was a faithful member of St. Bartholomew until his health began to fail. He was a life-long member and 4th Degree Knight of Peter Claver. He also held the office of the Deputy Grand Knight of Peter Claver. He was also a member of the 20th Century Knights.

He was predeceased in death by his: wife of 60 years, Ethel Mae Crudup Davis; children, Dave, Jr., Parilee, Alice, Josephine, and Sarah. He leaves to mourn his loss: daughters: Pearl Dixon, Maggie (Kinsey) Boyland, San Bernardino, Calif., Verna, and Karen (Anthony) Chatman, San Bernardino, Calif.; sons: Haile (Dorothy) Davis, James (Cynthia) Davis, Houston, Texas, Kenneth Willis and Ronald Willis, Gary, Ind.; oldest grandson and caretaker Ronald (Jeanette) Watkins; 40 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

JOSEPH BLAKE “JOE” HENDRIX SR. was born January 2,1934, and died January 29, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann (Baker) Hendrix; his daughter and son-inlaw, Katherine E. “Libby” and Daniel D. Frith, Sr.; his son,Joseph Blake Hendrix, Jr.; two grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth and Daniel D. “David” Frith, Jr.; a brother, William E. Hendrix, and; a sister, Martha G. Roberts. His mother and father, William and Gaynelle Hendrix, brother and sister-in-law, Dr. James and Angela Hendrix, and granddaughter, Katherine Madison Frith, predeceased him.

Joe and his brothers and sister were raised in Jonesboro and Searcy, graduated from Jonesboro High School and, in 1957, from Arkansas State College (now Arkansas State University) where he was an AAU champion wrestler in the 130-pound weight class. Following officer training school, he served two tours in the U.S.Army, serving as an artillery battery commander and artillery weapons instructor. His duty stations included Ft. Lewis, Wash., and, during the Berlin Crisis, Vilseck and Butigan, Germany. As a businessman, Joe worked for Arkla Gas Company, Coulson Oil Company, and his own business, Hendrix Oil Company. He retired in 1996.

Family was the most important and remained the most constant emphasis in his life. He documented every achievement of his children and grandchildren, and he and Jo Ann surrounded themselves in photographs and mementos of their family, near and far. Joe avidly supported and encouraged his children, Libby and Blake, and later his grandchildren, Sarah and David, in all of their hopes and dreams, inspiring them to be the best they could be. Hardly a conversation went by that he did not talk about the pride he felt for his family.

Joe was disciplined, but freespirited, gregarious, and adventurous. The son of a music teacher, he loved music, marrying Jo Ann, a beautiful singer, and raising his children in a home in which music always played an important part. After retiring, he spent his time on innumerable projects, caring for his beloved wife, and visiting neighbors with Sassy, his dog that brought him much comfort. Joe died peacefully following a brief illness. His beloved granddaughter, Sarah, was at his side.

EVELYN HORN, age 89, of Little Rock formerly of Delight, Ark.passed away on Monday January 28, 2013 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born on August 14, 1923 in Delight, Arkansas, daughter of the late Walter Elijah and Emily Trout Kirkham.Mrs. Horn was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ in Little Rock, Arkansas and was a nurse for many years.

She was preceded in death by a grandson Joe Allan Dailey.

Survivors include one son Mike Horn and wife Mary Ann of Little Rock, Ark.; three daughters Judy Binz and husband Bobby of North Little Rock, Ark.; Elizabeth Diane Dailey and husband Wayne of Little Rock, Ark.; and Linda Strother of Heber Springs, Ark.; six grandchildren Amy Wall, Tammy Stone, Leigh Ann McCasland, Nathan Horn, Mike Strother, and Lee Strother; 13 great-grandchildren Sophie, Isabella, Kelsie, Mason, Madison, Anna, Ally, Natalie, Gage, Blake, Noah, Ivy, and Liam.

ROBERT JOHANN MICHALK, age 81, of Jacksonville, passedaway on Sunday, January 27, 2013. Robert was born January 25, 1932 in Duesberg, Germany. Robert left Germany and came to the United States at the age of 21 and joined theUnited States Air Force. At the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and after 30 years of service Robert retired in October of 1984. His services included being a member of the 16th Special Ops Squadron and flying 167 combat missions. His squadron was involved in over 580 combat sorties in which they received the presidential unit citation for extraordinary heroism from President Richard Nixon.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Ernst Michalk of Pinneberg, Germany, Peter Romann Reutter of Aurora, Ill. Robert was a very thoughtful and devoted husband, dad, opa/uropa and will truly be missed. Survivors include his wife of 38 years Helga of Jacksonville, Ark.; four step-sons Reny and Peter Reutter of Aurora, Ill., Paul and Bobby Reutter of Jacksonville, Ark.; sister-in-law Marianne Michalk of Pinneberg, Germany,and all their families which included 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

FORREST H. POLLARD, 84, of North Little Rock passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013. He was born May 30, 1928 in Benton, Ark., to the late Emmett Issac and Lola Grace Pollard. Forrest was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Frances Pollard; brother, Emmett I. Pollard, Jr.

His family moved to Little Rock, in the summer of 1937 from Traskwood, Ark. He graduated from Little Rock Senior High School in 1946. He also graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1951. Forrest served in U.S. Army 1951-1953, and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research society of North America, Population Association of America and The AmericanStatistical Association.

He was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of North Little Rock for 40 years. He was awarded the doctor of Philosophy Degree in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas in the spring of 1965.

He retired from the University of Arkansas System in 1994 following 32 years of service. A year at University of Arkansas, Monticello; 20 years at the Industrial Research and Extension Center, University of Arkansas, at Little Rock and 11 years at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock

He is survived by two adult children, David Forrest Pollard and Ann Elizabeth Pollard; two grandsons, Forrest Colin Larkowski and Trevor Morgan Larkowski; his sister, Jeannette Pollard; sister-in-law, Patsy Pollard and a host of friends.

KEITH DENNIS SAVILLE, (known to others as Skeeter thePrince or Mr. Sherwood) 56, of Sherwood passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013. He was born in Plattsburg, N.Y., to the late Leslie Dene and Doris Lucille Favero Saville. He wasof Catholic Faith and he also enjoyed Umpiring ASA Girls Softball. He was a painting contractor by trade.

ISOLENE LEVY SHINDLER, age 92, of Little Rock, passed away atWest Markham Rehab Center on Monday, January 28, 2013, after a brief illness. She was born in New Orleans, La., on April 13, 1920, and she was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Shindler, in 2008.

Mrs. Shindler is survived by her children, Donald (Laura) of Chicago, Michael (Andrea) of Chicago and Orlando, Fla., Lesley (Steve) Hughes of Chicago, and David (Julie) of Little Rock.She was “Nina” to her grandchildren, Jay Shindler and Susan (Cliff) Bockard; Adam Shindler and Carey (Matt) Warren; Daniel Hughes, Allison Hughes and Jessica Hughes; and Lindsey Shindler and Alex Shindler; and her great-grandchildren, Hayden and Wyatt Bockard. She is also survived by her brothers, Richard Levy of Del Ray Beach, Fla., and Robert Levy, of Laredo, Texas, her brother-in-law, Herbert Barton of New Orleans, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Shindler graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1940 with a Bachelors of Business Administration, one of only three women in her class. In addition to raising her family, she worked a variety of accounting and business administration jobs in New Orleans and relocated to Little Rock when her husband was transferred in 1969, where she continued to be a full-time mother to her younger children. She immediately became a volunteer at St. Vincent Medical Infirmary Auxiliary, working in the Gift Shop, and was honored whenshe achieved 10,000 hours of service over a continuous 30+ year period.

Isolene was an active member of Temple B’nai Israel, its Sisterhood and a former Board Member of the Temple. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle aficionado, a lifelong member of the National Mah Jongg League and loved theater.

Her great pride was her family - her children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces - and her great love, after 60+ years of marriage and almost five years after his death, was her beloved husband Alan. They set a great example for all who knew them.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 1, at Temple B’nai Israel, 3700 Rodney Parham Road, Little Rock. A reception will follow. MICHAEL HENRY STAGE, age 69, of Jacksonville went to bewith his Lord on Monday, January 28, 2013. He was born May 27, 1943, in San Diego, California, to the late Norman Stage and Lorraine Thomas. He was a Vietnam veteran and retiredafter 26 years of service in the United States Air Force, he also served one year in the United States Navy Reserve. Mr. Stage was also a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Jacksonville.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Kay Stage. They left behind four children, Patrick K. Stage and his wife Karen of Bryant, Michael N. Stage and his wife Cindy of Conway, Kimberly K. Shatley of Bryant, Lisa D. Cassidy and her husband Jeff of O’Fallon, Missouri; two brothers, Jeff Stage and his wife Patty of San Diego, California, Jim Stage of San Diego, California; one sister Wilma Cervantes-Okano of Ontario, California. BRYANT - Mary Frances Butler, 95, went to be with her Lordand Savior January 29, 2013. She was born November 22, 1917, to the late Edna and William Anthony Smith Sr.

She is survived by her spouse of 76 years, Woodrow T. Butler; adaughter, Anne Bradley and husband, Ted; grandchildren, Stephanie Rushing and her husband, Anthony, of Benton; Michelle Henson of Bryant; and Kevin Henson of Mansfield, Texas; great-grandchildren, Cleburne, Julianna and Staunton Rushing; and Hannah and Brooke Henson; a sister, Myrtle Alice Biggers; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Edwin Smith and William Anthony Smith, Jr., and a sister, Georgia Fay Fought.

She was a member of Henderson United Methodist Church for about 65 years and was active in a number of capacities, especially the United Methodist Womenuntil recent years when she was unable to attend. She still kept in touch with friends there and with the activities of the church.

She was a life-long homemaker and enjoyed her home, gardening, sewing and getting together with friends over the years. She was an avid reader and a wonderful cook. She loved her family and was especially close to her grandchildren who spent much time with her as they were growing up.

CABOT - Newton Alexander Henderson Jr., passed awayon January 28, 2013, in Sherwood, Arkansas. He was born on June 29, 1935, in Barstow, California; and was the son of the late Newton Alexander Henderson Sr. and Manchel Henderson.

Newton was raised in Barstow, where his father was the City Constable, but from ages fifteen until eighteen he spent most of his time in San Bernardino. In 1957, Newton joined the United States Army where he taught how to repair and fly helicopters and served until 1959. He also served in the Marine Corps Reserves. He was a past member and president of the Sunnymead Lions Club. Newton loved fishing, cooking, reading, and his time living in Arkansas after his retirement, he will be remembered for being very social.

Survivors include his daughters, Andrea Wilson and husband Joel Wilson of San Francisco, Calif.; Alexis Sandner and husband Ricky Sandner of Cabot, Ark.; Bea Cowan and husband Andrew Cowan of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandsons, two granddaughters, three great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons; and a brother, Roger Henderson of San Bernardino, Calif.

CONWAY - Yvonne Money, 86, of Conway, Arkansas went tobe with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in Sherwood, Ark. Mrs. Money was born April 16, 1926, in Gastonia, N.C., to the late Rev. W.H. Bouington and Minnie MarieConnor Bouington. She marriedher childhood friend, Edward Money, on November 25, 1944. They recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. She was a pastor’s wife and longtime member in the Church of the Nazarene.

Preceding her in death were her parents, six siblings, and her husband of 68 years, Dr. W.E. Money. She is survived by one sister, Barbara Hudspeth, of Port Saint Joe, Florida; one brother, Oma Bouington, of Port Saint Joe, Florida; six children, Butch Money (Julie), of Vilonia, Arkansas, Dr. Wandal Money (Glenda), of Sherwood, Arkansas, Tanya McClendon (Bobby) of Apalachicola, Florida, Karen Caldwell (Donald) of Conway, Arkansas, Eddie Money (Lanay) of Enola, Arkansas, and Donna Gail Webb (Steve); twenty-three grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

She died like she lived - with grace and dignity, trusting God, and with her children by her side.

HAZEN - Doris Ruth Gerren, 82, of Hazen, departed thisearthly life on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. She was the 3rd and youngest daughter born to Fred and Daisy Perry on May 8, 1930.

Doris was preceded in death by her lovinghusband of 60 years, Charles C. Gerren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and both sisters, Kathryn Orlicek and Virginia Beckner both of Hazen.

Doris is survived by two daughters Denise Tarter (husband, William “Butch” Tarter) of North Little Rock and Nina Jean King (husband, Alan King) of Hazen; son, Charles L. Gerren (wife, Christy) of England; grandson, William Keith Tarter of North Little Rock; niece, Linda Gurley and family of Millington, Tennessee; nephew, Jack Orlicek and family of Bella Vista, Arkansas and niece, Georgene Jackson and family of Colorado Springs, Colorado; cousins, Helen Red and Gail Cox and wonderful friends, Linda Mathis, Val Wright, and James and Arlene Burks all of Hazen.

Doris was a wonderful homemaker and military wife. She and family were fortunate to accompany her husband, Charles overseas to the Azores, Japan, Thailand and Okinawa. Doris enjoyed cake decorating and for several years operated a small business from her home specializing in wedding cakes. She loved working crossword puzzles and spent many hours devoted to finishing the one she started. Most of all, Doris loved her family and children. She was happiest when surrounded by friends, family and loved ones.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 31 at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2013, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Hazen. HAZEN - Helen Jean Richmond, 88, of Hazen, passed away January 29, 2013, at Stuttgart Regional Hospital. She was born December 26, 1924, in Humphrey, Oklahoma, to William and Mabel Pollard. Jean was the eldest of seven daughters, Rosemary and Gloria. Later she married Granville Richmond and they had one daughter, Lyndi. She was a grandmother to six grandchildren, great-grandmother to five, and a great-great grandmother to two. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren as their MeMe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mabel Pollard; her husbands, Andrew Cooper and Granville Richmond; three brothers, Robert Pollard, Frankie Pollard, and Wayne Pollard, and one sister, Joan Cox. She is survived by three daughters, Rosemary Petersen (Gerald) of Beebe, Gloria Mills of Hot Springs, and Lyndi Kerr (Parker) of Hazen; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Jean owned and operated her own beauty shop, as well as enjoying sewing, crafts, sketch art, and gardening. She was known to be up before the first bird chirped sewing for someone. She was a member of the Church of Christ and Order of the Eastern Star.

MALVERN - Charles E. Reeves, Sr., age 65, of Malvern passed away Monday, January 28, 2013, at HSC Medical Center. He was born October 14, 1947, in Malvern, the son of Clarence and Gladys Robertson Reeves. Charles was a member and Deacon at Cooper Assembly of God and co-teacher of the Sanctuary Sunday School Class. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s and Razorback fan; he also loved to go fishing and hunting.

Other than his parents, his brother, Ralph Reeves precedes him in death. Left to cherish his memory, wife, of 41 years, who he married on June 5, 1971, Mary Cranford Reeves; son, Dr.Chuck Reeves, Jr. (Kathy) of Hot Springs; daughter, Magan Lapp (Keith), who are Missionaries in Taipei City, Taiwan; sister, Ruby Kimbrell of Harp; grandchildren, Kailey Reeves, Molly Reeves Elliot, and one expected in May; and numerous nieces and nephews.
