— Timber firm to add jobs, shift in Bearden

Anthony Timberlands Inc. plans to add 65 jobs for a second shift at its sawmill in Bearden, the company announced Wednesday.

The second shift is scheduled to start Monday, a news release said. The additional jobs will increase the number of employees at the mill to 175.

Steven Anthony, President of Anthony Timberlands said a loss of production capacity in the timber industry and a backlog of unharvested timber has allowed the company to add the second shift.

“When the market collapsed, our raw material (standing timber and delivered logs) cost remained high for a period of years, making efficient multi-shift operation impossible,” Anthony said in the news release.

Anthony Timberlands also operates a sawmill in Malvern and a hardwood sawmill in Clark County near Gurdon. The company also manages a lumber treatment plant in Hope and a hardwood laminating and timber mat plant in Sheridan.
