Police arrest teen in Gentry armed robbery

— Police arrested a 13-year-old boy Tuesday afternoon in connection with an armed robbery at the Phillips 66 Station, according to a news release from the Gentry Police Department.

At approximately 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, the boy "entered the store and, after other patrons had left, approached the counter, pointed a dark-colored handgun at [the store clerk] and demanded cigarettes," the news release states.

The boy also took other items, but but Police Chief Keith Smith said he did not ask for cash. The boy left the store on foot.

The first responding officer arrested the boy after a short foot pursuit and found a loaded .22-caliber revolver and a second unloaded revolver, according to the release. The boy also had the items taken in the robbery, the release stated.

Nobody was injured in the robbery or the arrest, according to police.

Police have not released the boy's identity.

The juvenile stole the handguns from his parents' locked bedroom after breaking into the room with an ax, according to the news release.

The Phillips 66 Station is located at the corner of Arkansas 12 and Arkansas 59.

The boy was transported to the Benton County Juvenile Detention Center and is being held pending a hearing on charges of aggravated robbery, a Class Y felony, and minor in possession of a handgun, a Class A misdemeanor.
