Shelter to Offer Free Spay, Neuter Services

— The Animal Shelter will offer free spay and neuter services three days in February and March, according to a city news release.

Residents can begin making appointments Friday for dogs and cats by calling 479-444-3456.

“Spring is a really high intake time for us, and we want to make it as easy on people as possible to help prevent unwanted puppies and kittens,” said Justine Lentz, animal services superintendent, in the news release.

Free spay and neuter clinics are scheduled for Feb. 16, March 1 and March 15. Space is limited to about 30 pets each day.

Lentz said shelter staff sterilize all animals adopted. The cost of the service is included in adoption fees, which ordinarily are $20 for cats, $60 for dogs younger than 5 years old and $30 for dogs between 5 and 10 years old. The shelter waives adoption fees for all pets 10 years or older and offers discounted spay and neuter services for low-income residents.
