3A-5 BOYS

Episcopal attacks full force

— Episcopal Collegiate Coach Micah Marsh is keeping secrets from his team.

So after Tuesday night’s 68-36 thumping of Perryville in a 3A-5 Conference game, he didn’t tell the Wildcats (20-2, 11-1) where they are in the league standings.

“I don’t want them to take anything for granted,” Marsh said. “We need to keep playing.”

Now with a two-game lead, the Wildcats turn their attention to their final two league games and the conference tournament, which will be played in their gym next month.

Episcopal Collegiate struggled early with fouls and poor shooting against Perryville (12-9, 2-7).

“We have to face it. We are so aggressive we are going to foul a lot,” said Marsh, who is in his second season as Episcopal’s coach.

The Wildcats trailed at 4-2 in the first two minutes but took a 5-4 lead on Allie Freeman’s three-pointer. Kelvin Robinson’s layup started a 12-0 run as Episcopal led 17-7 at the end of the quarter.

The Mustangs pulled as close at eight twice in the second quarter, but the Wildcats’ full-court pressure began to take its toll. Episcopal outscored Perryville 10-4 and took a 32-18 lead into halftime, then opened the second half with a 12-2 run to blow open the game. Episcopal forced 20 turnovers through three quarters and led 51-30 going into the final eight minutes.

Freshman Kelvin Robinson and sophomore Maylon Martin led Wildcats with 15 points each. Junior William Pollock, Freeman and Justin Gooseberry scored eight points each.

Daniel Eubanks led Perryville with nine points. Nathan Hubbard scored eight.
