Widespread stomach illness closes Lincoln schools

Students in Lincoln Public Schools were sent home shortly after noon on Monday because of a rapidly spreading stomach ailment, Superintendent Clay Hendrix said.
Some 190 students were absent on Monday and about 60 more were sent home before noon. Most of the absences were in the elementary and high schools, Hendrix said.
He consulted with a physician in Lincoln as well as the Washington County Health Department before make the decision to close and allow personnel to disinfect surfaces in all the schools. Schools will reopen on Thursday.
