HOT SPRINGS - State wildlife officials ended their search Monday for a mountain lion in a Hot Springs neighborhood, concluding that earlier sightings likely were erroneous. “I can’t explain what those people are seeing,” said Rick Chastain, regional wildlife supervisor for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. “We went out Thursday and set up six scent-post stations and two hair collection stations. ... All we’ve picked up are bobcat and raccoon tracks.” Residents in a 3.5-mile section northeast of the Hot Springs Country Club on Malvern Avenue began reporting sightings of a big cat Dec. 6. The last report was about a week ago.
