Reported Road Rage Leads to Arrests

— Police arrested two men who reportedly pulled a knife on a pair of high school students during a road rage incident Friday afternoon.

Michael T. Gordon, 23, of 41476 E. Churchill Drive and Cody L. Poe, 18, of 3216 W. Shale St., both in Fayetteville face a felony charge of aggravated assault.

Police were called for an armed person report near Fayetteville High School about 4 p.m. Friday.

According to an arrest report, two students were pulling out of the school’s parking lot, when another car, driven by Gordon, sped up.

Gordon told police the students struck his gray 2004 Infiniti with their black 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe and fled.

The students told police they got out of the car and tried to exchange information when Gordon started “freaking out,” according to the report.

The students reportedly got back in their car and drove away because they were scared. Police said Gordon followed them to the intersection of Garland Avenue and Buchanan Avenue, where heavy traffic forced them to stop.

Gordon and his passenger, Poe, reportedly got out of their car and started banging on the windows of the Tahoe. Poe had a black sheathed knife in his hand and yelled, “Step out of the car so we can finish this,” according to the report. The students tried to reason with Poe until he backed off, police said. One of the students reportedly got out of the car and ran to the school to get help from a school resource officer.

Gordon and Poe were arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center. Gordon was being held on $7,910 bond Saturday, while Poe was being held on $7,500 bond.
