Five-term Sen. Harkin announces retirement

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, a Democrat from Iowa who championed landmark legislation banning discrimination against people with disabilities, said Saturday that he would retire and not seek re-election next year to a sixth term.
