— A Washington County Circuit Court jury Friday found a Fayetteville man guilty of sexual assault in the second degree, and residential burglary.

Delane Gunelic, 27, entered a woman’s home in May and assaulted her while she was passed out in bed, according to testimony during the trial.

The woman said she awoke to find Gunelic hovering over her and assaulting her. The woman was wearing jeans when she went to bed, and they had been removed, she said.

Gunelic was asked to leave the residence several times the evening of the incident, according to witnesses. He eventually returned, reached inside an unlocked window and unlocked a door to gain entry, according to testimony.

“When a girl says no, you have to respect that and quit trying to have sex with her and quit trying to get in her house,” said Denis Dean, deputy prosecutor. “This defendant put his feelings and desires above those of the victim.”

Washington County Circuit Judge Mark Lindsay sentenced Gunelic to five years at the Arkansas Department of Correction on each charge. The sentences will run concurrently.
