Get happy, Mr.

Get Happy Mister worked 5 furlongs in 1:01.60 on Thursday morning for trainer Kelly Von Hemel, who is pointing the unbeaten 3-year-old toward the $60,000 Gazebo Stakes on March 2.

Get Happy Mister made his first four career starts for trainer Butch Gleason last year at Arapahoe Park in Colorado.

Von Hemel said he was asked last fall by Gleason if he would be willing to take the First Samurai colt at Oaklawn.

“Of course I said, ‘Yeah,’ ” Von Hemel said. “Butch Gleason is the one you give the credit to for suggesting us.”

Get Happy Mister was dominant at Arapahoe, winning his four sprint starts by a combined 31 1/2 lengths.

Three of his victories were in stakes events, including a 9 1/2-length romp in the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity on Aug. 19.

Von Hemel said Get Happy Mister was turned out for about 2 1/2 months after the Gold Rush and arrived at Oaklawn shortly after Christmas.

Thursday’s work, which was in company with Sgt Bilko, an unstarted 3-yearold, was the fourth of the Oaklawn meeting for Get Happy Mister.

Also working Thursday morning was 2012 Oaklawn Handicap winner Alternation, who breezed 3 furlongs in :37.40 and galloped out a half-mile in :50.20 for trainer Donnie K. Von Hemel.

Baby talk

Trainer Gary “Red Dog” Hartlage said 4-year-old multiple stakes winner On Fire Baby should begin breezing in about a week as she prepares to resume her racing career.

On Fire Baby has spent more than two months at Eisaman Equine, a central Florida facility that specializes in breaking, training, rehabilitation and pinhooking 2-year-olds.

On Fire Baby was sent to Eisaman Equine, where she was broken, because of a minor muscle problem.

“They’re really happy the way she’s doing,” Hartlage said.

Hartlage said there’s no timetable of when On Fire Baby will rejoin his stable.

She hasn’t run since May 28.

Roberts milestone

Trainer Stanley Roberts of Forrest City won his 900th career race when Cuzin Eric, a first-time starter, scored a three-quarter length victory in Saturday night’s third race at Delta Downs in Louisiana.

Roberts, 71, saddled his 899th career winner earlier in the day when another first time starter, Indian Alley, won the third race at Oaklawn.

“I wish I could have done it here,” said Roberts, who wasn’t at Delta.

Roberts was Oaklawn’s second-leading trainer in 2002 with 24 victories and in 2003 (22). He won 23 races in 2008 to rank third in the Oaklawn standings.
